The Functional Skills Level 2 is an equivalent qualification to GCSE level 4 or Grade C and is a great alternative if you found it difficult to pass your GCSE exams. It is accepted by most universities and employers around the UK with it being an approved Ofqual qualification. If you’re looking for a way to progress or just gain educational achievement, this may prove to be useful to you. It also may be useful to those who have had their overseas qualifications rejected by the UK education system and are looking for alternative options themselves.

Developing practical everyday skills is a big benefit of the Maths and English Functional Skills Level 2. Rather than being the easier option, it’s viewed as being more accessible. The questions are relatable and applicable to situations you may find yourself in today, tomorrow or any day of the week. Another great thing about this is that it offers much more flexibility in comparison to GCSE exams. Functional Skills Level 2 are available to be taken anytime that suits the learner whereas GCSE exams are available only twice a year at set dates. This can result in a student having their progression delayed which nobody wants. That is why we at Leeds Maths Tutor recognise and recommend this as a great option for everyone. It provides access to improve and increase opportunities without the added time pressure of having only two chances a year.

Sadly there is a cost, but if you’re lucky enough to be eligible some courses are funded by the government. Being in full time education and aged 19 or under are the main criteria for this. For adults there are a small number of funded routes like apprenticeship programmes, so the majority of people will need to fund themselves.
